For the entire month of May we’re holding The Great Spring Cleaning Book Sale to help reduce the build-up of three years of books in our basement. For only $1 you can purchase a bag filled with any of the items in the Book Sale. Bring your own plastic grocery store bag or ask for one at the desk. I’m sure you’ll find a treasure.
This time every year, Publishers Weekly looks at the previous year’s sales of children’s books (including young adult). They look at the state of the industry from several angles including who’s buying, what they’re buying, where they’re buying and in what formats. In the year 2012, sales of children’s books rose 9% to $3.3 billion. The Association of American Publishers’ monthly StatShot program collects sales from 23 children’s publishers and found that children’s sales were down by 9.7% in the first 10 months of 2013. Blockbusters have a huge influence on annual sales. The massive popularity of The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins boosted sales in 2012. Last year, the Divergent trilogy by Veronica Roth will help to boost the sales volume.
