Getting a Library Card

All residents of Broome, Chenango, Delaware, and Otsego counties are eligible for a library card. Your library card is free with proof of identification and address. We offer many types of library cards for a variety of needs.

Adult cards are for individuals 16 and older. Home Delivery patrons will register for an adult card and agree that a volunteer can access their checkout history to help make selections when needed.

Children under 16 may receive library cards if photo identification and current address can be provided by a parent/guardian. The parent/guardian will sign the card application to acknowledge responsibility for their children’s account.

Temporary cards are intended for adults from outside the area residing locally on a temporary basis or adults residing in motels. A valid photo ID and proof of local address is required.

College cards are for students who can show proof of permanent address with a photo ID and their college ID.

Internet only cards provide access to electronic resources like Libby and Hoopla only.

Organization cards are provided to organizations when a representative agrees to take responsibility for the borrowed materials. Book Clubs may also use this type of card when one or more members agree to take responsibility for the materials.

Please print and fill out the appropriate paper application form below and bring it to the library to complete the application process.

Getting an e-card:
You can now apply for an e-card to access HML’s online services including Hoopla, Libby/Overdrive, and databases. You can convert this card to one with full privileges to borrow from the physical collection by bringing in photo identification and proof of address.
